September Events
September has arrived, carrying the last golden bits of summer with it as fall begins to creep into the air. Fall is one of our favorite times of year here in Helena — it’s short, special, and always feels like a season worth savoring. Pumpkin flavors are creeping onto every menu, and maybe you’re squeezing in a few last weeks of exploring, refreshing your space with a new fall look, or leaning into the cooler weather with pumpkin patch trips as you get ready for the season ahead.
Below, we’ve rounded up a few events happening this month that we’re excited about, to help get you in the fall spirit and ready for the season we all know and love.
Septemberfest
The 6th Annual Septemberfest hits downtown Helena September 11th–13th with this year’s theme, Gulch Goes Galactic! Enjoy the Soapbox Derby, Sauter Balloons Sculpture Fest, and the United Way Family Fun Fest — all free, family-friendly, and benefiting United Way and its partner nonprofits.
Helena Symphony Masterworks Concert
Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary as the Helena Symphony opens its season with a program that captures the soul of American classical music — Samuel Barber’s evocative Violin Concerto and Aaron Copland’s majestic, uplifting Third Symphony. Afterward, keep the celebration going with dinner and drinks at the Opening Night After Party. Single tickets are $72, with tables of 8 available for $520 and tables of 10 for $680.
Carnival Classic
The Helena Education Foundation presents Carnival Classic — a free kickoff to the new school year celebrating public education. School organizations host games like dunk tanks and goldfish tosses (keeping 100% of what they raise), while youth-serving groups from across Helena join in with performances, activities, and booths.
The Werks Market
Gardenwerks invites the community to The Werks Market, a seasonal evening of fresh flavors, local vendors, and live music set against the garden backdrop at Shades of Green. Guests can browse local makers, grab a bite from the food trucks, and stay for the music!
York Fest
York Fest returns to beautiful York, Montana — a free, family-friendly celebration featuring food, local vendors, live music, and fun for all ages. Guests can spend a relaxing day supporting local businesses and community organizations while soaking up the charm of this welcoming Montana town.
Holter Block Party
The Holter Museum of Art’s second annual Rock the Block Art Fair returns to the Holter and along Cruse Street, building on last year’s success with an even bigger celebration of art and community. Explore booths from local artists and makers, dive into hands-on art activities, and soak up downtown Helena’s vibrant energy — a perfect fall day out for art lovers, supporters of local makers, and families alike.
Sweet Bee Fall Vintage Market
If vintage, antiques, and handmade goods are your thing, the Sweet Bee Fall Vintage Market takes over the Helena Civic Center for two days in September. Browse curated vintage finds and handcrafted goods from local Montana makers, with live music, food, and free craft activities for the kids.
Harvest Day
Join us for West Mont’s 2026 Harvest Day — a free admission event where families can enjoy our beautiful farm property at 3240 York Road! Highlights include hay rides, pumpkins for sale, free children’s activities, face painting, and much more.
